http://ow.ly/5W4Wi
The attached article appears on www.law.com on The Law Technology News blog. It includes links to 4 articles about eDiscovery certifcation exams, written by Patrick Oot, Albert Barsocchini, and Monica Bay. Monica's articles dealt with Ralph Losey, Esq.'s training through e-Discovery Team Training, and Chere Estrin's course with the Organization of Legal Professionals.
In addition, the article posts a response to the other artiles, from ACEDS (Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists), written by Gregory Calpakis.
The writers of this blog feel that any education and training that assists those in the practice of law, or those working in litigation support positions, is beneficial to the future of the legal profession as a whole. There are some very important points made in the articles referenced here, including those that discuss the limitations associated with these certifications. In addition, there is no substitue for experience, the writers of this blog collecitvely have over 20 years experience in dealing with eDiscovery and litigation support issues, and no certification can subsitute for the time.
However, the educational value that the courses provide are certainly a benefit to all those involved, and will likely help create a better understanding of what "Best Practices" are with respect to the handling of electronically stored information.
