Costs of Electronic Discovery Growing

http://ow.ly/63hwx

Article by Gina Passarella, appearing on the Legal Intelligencer.

This article touches on impact that eDiscovery is having upon the legal profession.  The growing costs involved in eDiscovery are a continued to concern, even as the pricing models for technology continue to be more affordable, the staggering amounts of ESI that need to be handled and processed rise exponentially.

The article quotes some prominent attorneys that are involved in eDiscovery litigation.  One of the interesting quotes from the article is as follows:  "Plaintiffs attorney John P. Gismondi of Pittsburgh-based John P. Gismondi & Associates said he doesn't think plaintiffs attorneys use discovery to try and elicit a settlement. Defendants just often have 50 times more discoverable information than plaintiffs who have to "get into the bowels of a multinational corporation."

As ESI continues to expand in volume, corporations and their outside counsel will have to rely on technology to assist in reducing the costs of discovery, and the attorney review process.  Service providers like SRM Legal are poised to assist in this regard.
