CFPB Embraces Social Media but Archiving Twitter, Facebook Messages is Challenge

Article written by Amy Biegelsen on the Center for Public Integrity, iwatch news website.

This article touches on the use of Facebook and Twitter by government agency The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  The agency is using the Twitter hashtag, #KnowBeforeYouOwe to seek feedback about creation of a 1 page mortgage summary form.

The article provides the following information, which certainly provides an important reference:  "The CFPB push to establish a policy for its records comes on the heels of a 90-page Government Accountability Office report issued a few weeks ago on the difficulties other federal agencies face managing the archival and security concerns posed by social media platforms."

The government's use of social media is an interesting trend, and over time, through the creation of standards and best practices surrounding this use, the efficiency of government entities should see improvement. The feedback that the government can receive from posted user content should prove very valuable.
