Missing USB Drive Found in Pub Contained Unencrypted Data
http://ow.ly/5VYlu
Article by Ron Condon, appearing on SearchSecurity.Co.UK website.
This article reports an newsworthy event, which can be viewed as an example of how our personal data can be truly unsafe. Contractors employed by two housing associations lost a hard drive containing unencrypted personal data about 25,000 tenants in the U.K. The Information Commissioners Office was alerted and fortunately it seems as if a good samaritan returned the USB drive without misuing any of the sensitive information.
It is scary to think that our personal information can be exposed to the public due to the complete careleness of others. Data being removed from a workplace should be encrypted, the software to do so is readily available, and inexpensive.
