Opportunity Highs Meet Security Lows in E&Y Survey

http://ow.ly/7qkVY

An article by Michelle Manafy published on the internetevolution.com website.

This article discusses  Ernst & Young’s 14th annual Global Information Security Survey and the results recently released in that survey.  The article provides a link to the survey results.

The author states, "...although organizations recognize the increasing challenge of managing security, the majority are failing to continuously update their security strategies to address emerging challenges"

The article further states, "Mobile devices present one of the highest areas of risk. Ernst & Young has found that organizations are beginning to implement strategies to keep pace with employee adoption of mobile devices and use of personal technology within the enterprise. However, they also found that much remains to be done, as less than half of respondents have implemented safeguards to protect the enterprise from the security hazards that mobile devices can introduce.

Of the 1,700 global organizations surveyed by Ernst & Young, 80 percent are currently using or considering using tablets, for example. Yet at present, most of them manage risk related to these devices through policy alone, with fewer than half (47 percent) employing encryption techniques."

The author also discusses risks associated with the various uses of social media networks by corporate employees.  The article mentions that 15% of the World's population is registered to use some form of social media network, however, "More than half (53 percent) (of corporations) have responded by blocking access to sites rather than embracing the change and adopting enterprise-wide measures."

Another issue of concern that is discussed is the increasing use of "Cloud Computing" services.

P.S.  Mobile Devices; Social Media Networks; Cloud Computing (and the legal risks related to those topics)....all seem to be central themes of many of the articles found on the Litigation Support Technology and News blog.
