In-House Compliance Requires Companywide Efforts

This is an article by Catherine Dunn posted on law.com on the LTN webpage.

The article discusses a recent Q&A session which featured responses from Frances McLeod and Greg Mason, of Forensic Risk Alliance, in a discussion regarding corporate regulatory compliance.

The article states, "Nevertheless, says McLeod, the threat of debarment still looms large for corporate lawyers and their companies; bribery convictions close the door on government contracts in the U.S. and the European Union, and can also affect access to financing.

The Securities and Exchange Commission's new whistleblower provisions will only stoke the enforcement trend on a global scale, she says, in part because the U.S. government sees enforcement gaps in other countries. "The rest of the world has been slow in giving protections to whistleblowers," McLeod says, whereas "the will to enforce remains incredibly strong in the U.S.""

The article goes on to offer advice about testing compliance systems, and understanding the corporate data that is being analyzed from a risk management perspective.
