A post by Chris Dale on the blog eDisclosure Information Project Updates, that provides further examples of challenges regarding the archiving of Social Media content. The post references an article by Barry Murphy, and provides further comment on that article, as well as a link to that writing.
Interesting post
ReplyDeleteThere are many aspects to collecting social media content and there are methods of capturing twitter, Facebook and even website content not to mention IM conversations.
I have personally worked with providers of such solutions and they perform as hoped. They provide chain of custody reporting as well as ways to integrate the data captured into a central archive solution where eDiscovery can be performed against not only the body of the message but against the metadata.
The world of eDiscovery is upon us be it good or bad. We have two choices. Be ready and preemptive by archiving all our content that could be called into question in litigation or internal investigation, or be unprepared and end up spending more in sanctions for not preserving the required content
The courts see the lack of an archiving solution no longer an excuse they demand and expect solutions and lack thereof as failing in your duty to preserve.
